8 Proving Grounds For Torture Testing New Tech

Tested at: Chrysler Proving Grounds, Chelsea, Mich., and Yucca, Ariz.

What does it take to prove a new car is road-ready? Before Dodge debuted the revitalized Dart (which we like a lot), the automaker not only tested it at both proving grounds, but also put a fleet of about 100 Dart test cars on public roads in Naples, Fla., and Las Vegas for hot-weather testing, and in Bemidji, Minn., for cold weather. All told, the company put a cumulative 8.5 million miles on the Dart prior to production, honked the horn 75,000 times, opened and closed the doors 84,000 times, tested the brakes 400,000 times.
