Topping tech headlines on Monday, Apple reportedly slimmed down orders for iPhone components amidst sluggish demand, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
Citing "people familiar with the situation," the Journal said orders for iPhone 5 screens have been halved, while Cupertino has also cut down on orders for other iPhone parts. The newspaper pointed to increased competition from Samsung and phone makers with Android-based devices.
Speaking of Samsung, the phone maker yesterday announced a major milestone: global sales of its flagship Galaxy S smartphones have hit 100 million units since the first model made its debut in 2010. It all started with the original Galaxy S smartphone, which launched in June 2010, and has sold some 24 million units to date.
?In other mobile news, a new report from Arieso indicates that?iPhone 5 owners are the "hungriest" data consumers, though Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II owners aren't exactly conserving their bandwidth.??
Meanwhile, in gaming news, the National Rifle Association on Sunday released an iOS game that lets players shoot various targets with a gun of choice. Given the fact that the NRA recently placed part of the blame for the December Newtown massacre on violent video games, some reports said it was hypocritical for the NRA to essentially release its own violent video game.
