I sat down and in one month wrote, edited and published a novel. ?That seems like a pretty fantastic accomplishment, but only if you ignore the history of my writing. ?The truth of the matter is, I?ve lost more great writing samples than most people have written. I?ve been writing for as long as I can remember. ?In fact, there isn?t a time in my life where I haven?t been doing some sort of creative writing endeavor.
Since my parents are retiring they?ve been packing up the house they?ve been in for the past 28 years. ?While they?ve been packing, they?ve found a significant amount of my writing samples (including a graphic poem I wrote about blow jobs? ?My mom won?t give it to me to post on here, boo!) ?There are three major works which have yet to be located though:
1. ?Lima Bean Town ? a short children?s story I wrote in the 3rd grade about a dystopian?future where everything is made out of Lima Beans. ? My mother considers this my best work to date, and I have to agree. ?Of course, I haven?t read it in ages, but if I ever find it, I?m considering actually turning it into a children?s novel.
2. ?A short story about the Titanic sinking ? This is an interesting one because a couple years after I wrote it ? the Titanic came out. ?When I handed it to my mom, she cried at the beautiful imagery?portrayed?in the story of an older third class couple holding each other as the water burst in their rooms. ?While watching Titanic, I would have been crying at that scene, but that?s when I realized James Cameron had obviously read, and stolen my short story.
3. ?The seven part series about NSYNC after the band breaks up ? This is an interesting one because it?s a 7 part series that I wrote in my junior year of high school which could easily, without very much effort be translated into a novel about a boy band breaking up. ?This is was my most awarded?fan fiction?series, getting 27 awards in a three month period ? and what eventually launched my blog.
I?m sure there?s a ton of other samples that I can?t find. ?In fact, I know that back when I was an X-Phile, I wrote hundreds of thousands of words regarding X-Files fan fiction. ?There?s blog archives which are lost in the great hole that is the internet. ?There?s articles I wrote for the local news paper that I don?t have.
So while smoking outside, talking to Eurymakos he asked me how I was not impressed with the sales of my book. ?The truth is, I?ve writing my entire life? and making money off it my entire life. ?The novel and any sales that come from it is just an extension of something I?ve been working on since I first picked up a pen and paper.
