Anyone who's ever been used, in any way, knows the difference between used and pre-owned.
That said..
We drove down to Charleston yesterday to take a look at an RV we were pretty sure we'd be buying. The purchase was " contingent on inspection." We inspected it yesterday, and I thought the vehicle looked good. Moriarty didn't. She found, with her eagle eye, some " small " things that weren't quite right. Shoddy is the word. I liked the thing. We talked.
" I have a gut feeling, a bad one about this one, " she said.
I listened. I heard her. We decided not to buy it. It was my job to tell the guy who runs the RV place of our decision to back off. He'd cleaned the vehicle up. He thought he had a sale, a done deal.
I was the one who told him, " No deal. "
I'm good at that. I've told psych patients, when they were expecting to go home that day, that they wouldn't be. That they'd be staying a few days more. The medical director of the unit always wanted me in the room when that news was delivered.
The RV guy understood. He'd done nothing wrong. Just not a good fit. Moriarty was happy. She'd done the right thing, seen the red flags I didn't see. All in all a good day. We didn't come home with a new camper. But we came thinking: Terry and Donna: On the same page.
That's what's important.
